On My Heart (Vol 3)

I thought from time to time it might be nice to give you a peek at what’s tugging at my heart strings.

Right now I am…

Watching: Forget those presidential debates. It’s time for the NBA playoffs. Go Miami Heat!

Feeling: Convicted and challenged by the book of Ecclesiastes. I’m studying it verse by verse with a great group of gals.

Listening: Have you hear Colton Dixon’s new song Through All of It”? It’s one of my new favorites along with “Hope in Front of Me” by Danny Gokey. I didn’t catch either of them on American Idol, but I am a big fan now.  🙂

Making: I love this crock pot vegetable soup. I make a big batch on the weekend and pack it in my new lunch crock food warmer to take to work.

Loving: I discovered a fabulous app called Adobe Post thanks to Amy Andrews, and now I am addicted to making graphics on my phone.

Reading: I recently finished two excellent books — Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer and The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan.

Planning: I took the plunge and launched a public Instagram account. Join me there for a little sunshine.

Celebrating: My hubby came home from the hospital last month with high blood sugar, so I determined to get our diet under control. I started by purchasing these precise portion plates, and 8 weeks later, Bruce has lost weight and is off medication.

Let’s Talk: What’s on your heart right now?

I thought from time to time it might be nice to give you a peek at what’s tugging at my heart strings.

Right now I am…

Celebrating:  An old friend was in town over Easter, and I was delighted to learn that she is now a married woman.  It was so much fun seeing how God has worked in her life, and her wedding album was beautiful.   I love it when Jesus girls get happy endings!

Watching: I’ve tuned in to A.D., the Bible Continues on NBC, the last two Sunday nights. (I winced and closed my eyes through some of the more violent parts.)  I also finally sat down to view Episode One of Your Big Family Renovation with Jen Hatmaker.  I really enjoyed watching the Hatmakers do their thing and help out another big family with a limited budget.  I could only find one episode though, so I am not sure if more are coming since Episode one aired at the beginning of March.

Reading: I just finished reading Chasing God by Angie Smith, and I am working my way through several other half finished books, including Heaven by Randy Alcorn (which is a million pages long and may take me a few years to finish!)

Planning: I’m dreaming about taking a dip in our new pool!  That is if it ever gets finished….

Pool

Listening: I downloaded the new Passion Album Even So Come.  My favorite new song on the album so far is “Draw Near” by Kristan Stanfill.

Making: I am making good use of my crock pot these days.  I love how easy peasy it is to make a big hearty meal, and the whole house smells yummy yummy all day while the food is heating up.  Here is my favorite “go to” meatball recipe.  I make this whenever I have a big group of friends over, or if I have to take an appetizer to a pot luck.

Pondering:  My dad discovered these great pictures of his parents recently.  I never met them because they both passed away in Cuba when I was little.  I find myself wondering how different my life might have been if that whole Fidel Castro thing hadn’t messed things up for my dad’s family.

Feeling: Brand new!  I visited the hair salon last week.  What is it about getting a good hair cut that makes you feel lighter and fresher?

Loving: I love, love, love the Missional Women App!  It’s packed full of awesome resources including an ESV audio Bible and lots of other goodies.

5 Ways to Forge Missional Friendships

Missional Friendships

I live next door to one of the pastors at my church, and I have learned so much from watching how he and his wife love on others Carolyn bakes cookies at Christmas time. Jorge mows the lawn for several people in the neighborhood. They open up the doors to their home and invite people in for a meal I often see them standing on a neighbor’s front door stoop having a chat. They live their lives on mission with such easy going transparency. Jesus lived a life of sacrificial friendship. He wasn’t in too much of a hurry to listen to someone’s story. He had eyes to see the hurting. He listened. He invited others in with genuine care.

I want to live a life that welcomes others in and points them to the Truth that will set them free. More and more, I am realizing that this will require me to intentionally move toward the lonely and the lost.

How about you? Do you want to join me on this purposeful mission to love others to Christ through friendship?

I’m chatting about Missional Friendships over at Missional Women today.

I thought from time to time it might be nice to give you a peek at what’s tugging at my heart strings.

Right now I am…

Watching: I am a bit obsessed with the show Fixer Upper.  My husband keeps getting Joanna Gaines and her goofy hubby, Chip confused with the Hatmakers (who are on my second favorite HGTV show).

Reading: I am plowing through The Fringe Hours by Jessica Turner with the girls over at (in)courage’s Bloom Book Club.    This book has made me feel less guilty about my dirty dishes and my laundry pile by affirming that taking time out for “Me” is not selfish, but smart.

Listening:  My new morning routine is to start the day with this song by Jen Stanbro.  It’s a prayer that rises up in my soul.

Making: This recipe for Enchiladas is easy peasy and is always a hit at my house.

Feeling:  Tired. Grieving is incredibly exhausting.  This week, we laid to rest my beloved Madrina.  Here is a picture of us (circa 1970).

Planning:  I am going to leading an 8-week Love God Greatly study for women starting March 23rd.  Members must be subscribed to the LGG blog, and we will be meeting in a private Facebook group to share our insights on a few verses each week day.  I have room for 7 more in my group.  If you are interested in joining, let me know in the comments.

Loving:  I am in mad love with Panera’s hot chocolate (Don’t tell Bruce…)

Hello

Hello

Hello there!

Sometimes, I wonder who you are — the mysterious people who read my blog.  Are you tall or short?  Do you like coffee or tea?   I wish we could sit down for a spell and just get to know one another.  I would probably laugh too loudly and make a mess while I eat — because I am just not that fancy and put together.

Today, in order to foster a little “get together,” I am going to answer the fun questions that the girls over at Allume asked their friends last month.  I would love for you to share a little of your answers in the comments.

Let’s be friends!

What was your favorite food as a kid?

McDonald’s Cheeseburgers

What chore do you despise the most?

Cleaning the toilet (It’s stinky!)

When was the last time you chatted with your neighbor?

We had lunch last Sunday.  Love her!

What sound do you love?

The sound of my husband’s voice…. the ocean …. laughter of friends ….  worship at church

If you could paint a picture of a place you have been what would it be?

As a teen, my parents took me to St. Croix, and we stayed in this bungalow right on the water that had a window seat and a rock terrace that stepped out to the sand.

If you could only do one thing for a whole year what would you want it to be?

Read, of course

If you could learn to do anything what would it be?

Play the guitar (but my rebellious fingers don’t want to learn)

If you could pick anyone as a mentor who would you pick?

Beth Moore

What do you do with 30 minutes of free time?

I check Facebook or chat on the phone with friends.

What would the dream birthday present be?

A getaway trip with my husband.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I do not plan on growing up. 🙂

What is something new you learned last week?

I learned that prime rib is a great way to bribe my husband.

What do you miss most about being a kid?

Not having to balance a checkbook.

If gifted an all expenses paid vacation to anywhere where would you pick?

Israel, Europe, the Grand Canyon — do I have to pick one?

If everything in your life aligned exactly as in your dreams, what would your life look like? Where would you live, what would you do?

I would love to see all of my family come to know Christ.  I’d live on the water, and I’d be happily retired.

If I was coming to your house for dinner, what would we have?

Probably a BBQ if our husbands were sitting in.  If it’s a girl’s night, probably tacos.

What’s in your purse?

Everything.  (I never leave home without my colored lip balm and my cell phone charger.)

What are your 5 favorite books?

Who came up with this question?  Am I really supposed to narrow this down to 5?  (My all time favorite is God Thinks You’re Wonderful by Max Lucado.)

Okay, now it’s your turn….
