Give Me Vision

I was in the DMV when I realized the sad news.Β My vision is mediocre at best.Β The lady behind the counter asked me to look through the view finder and read the bottom line.
All I saw was a blur of miniscule letters.Β I walked back to my car wearing a frowny face.
Now, six years and three pairs of glasses later, I pick up a magnifying glass to read the directions on bottles.Β I don my glasses to see the computer screen.
I’ve accepted that I need help to see physical objects clearly.
However, when I try to assess the landscape of my life, I still stubbornly insist on trying to read the writing on the wall without accepting assistance.
I fail to remember that my perception is limited.Β I miss the finer details of God’s Hand in my circumstances.
Like the prophet of old, I need to ask God to give me vision to see things like He does.
Open my eyes, Lord, so that I may see.
Help me behold your enveloping protection.
May I access your abundant provision.
I want to clearly witness every glorious detail of your power displayed.

Food for thought. I am constantly saying, “I can’t see,” since my vision is problematic lately. Maybe the next time I’m confused about which way to go or what exactly I need to do to fulfill the vision God has for my life I should pray “I can’t see, help me.”

Yes, that is the spirit of “Pray Big” exactly. I want to offer it up to Him and say, “Lord, Thy will be done. Just help me follow hard after You.”
I too struggle with accepting assistance. Let this be my prayer in those moments I’m tempted to walk through life with blurred vision: “open my eyes Lord, so that I may see”

This post reminds me of the song “Give Me Your Eyes” by Brandon Heath. Although we, as humans on this earth, have limits, God is limitless!
Wonderful analogy, Lyli. I can so easily accept that I need glasses (and bifocals), but ignore the need for the Spirit’s help in “seeing.”
It is amazing how much I depend on my physical glasses to help me see and easily forget to ask Him to be my lens of true vision! You always share such poignant and relevant lessons, Lyli.
