Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room

A close friend confessed to me that she is feeling a great deal of anxiety as we draw closer to Christmas.Β Her calendar is crowded, and she is not feeling “Merry and Bright.”
Can you relate?
I haven’t wrapped one single gift. I haven’t mailed any Christmas cards.Β I confess that I put down the nativity without dusting the coffee table (Picture Baby Jesus among the dust bunnies.)
Maybe like me you want to push the pause button on Christmas.Β Β Β I honestly wonder if being a busy bee is one of the reasons why many people back in the day missed out onΒ the news that their promised Messiah had come.Β Perhaps even the citizens of Bethlehem needed to slow down and let go of their expectations.
I don’t want to miss Him.
Joy to the world.Β The Lord is come.Β Let every heart prepare Him room.
Lord, this Advent help me have the expectant heart of a pilgrim.
They asked around,
βWhere can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jews?
We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled His birth.

Preparing room for him is the challenge among challenges during this especially busy time. Our nativity is on the floor in the corner because its usual home is the current landing spot for all of the things I’m sorting through–trying to lighten up and make physical and mental room in our life. That’s an irony I hadn’t thought of until now.

Just yesterday I realized that it would be a year today for you, Lyli. Happy Anniversary π I am grateful to be a part of this community & pray that it continues to grow, bless many & bring Him honor. Like you, I haven’t wrapped anything & my decorating is coming along slowly. But my heart is postured to wait as I do not want to miss Him. Blessings!
I think you may have something there in thinking they were busy. And their expectations were just so different than who showed up. I’m really enjoying Advent this year. Like never before. π
It is definitely hard to “prepare Him room” when we’re too busy. I have most of my shopping done, but haven’t written out the first Christmas card and have only wrapped a few gifts. This morning I plan to sit still in front of the fire for an hour and write out cards of blessings to mail this afternoon (at least for those not on Facebook, ha). Thanks for the reminder, Lyli, to be intentional about how I spend my time this Christmas season.

I started out ahead of the game with most of my shopping and all done, and yet my schedule has still gotten me feeling overwhelmed and anxious! (Which I hate.) This morning I am still in my pajamas due to a headache and I may just stay that way all day and have a personal strike against all busy-ness!
Since my sons are grown up and on their own, and since I now live 2 1/2 hours away, my Christmas season has become a lot less hectic. Our family has moved away from gift-giving to concentrate on setting aside time to be together. It’s helped me focus on the true meaning of the season.
But, on the other hand, having Christmas *change* has been difficult in itself. I find myself lonely. And this is another emotion that can distract me from the Lord.
My prayer is to remember, and reflect upon, and rejoice in the meaning of the manger. For in its humble surroundings, my King was born!

Congrats on one year! Wow! I’m with you; I don’t want to miss Jesus…I haven’t done a lot of things (like cards but I hope to because I haven’t for several years) but I’m okay with that π Blessings to you, my friend π
Your blog and the link-up are a blessing. Thank-you and congratulations on the year mark! I have not decorated or sent out cards, but I spent a long weekend with my brother and sister needing support. Joy came as we visited a live nativity accompanied with Christmas Carols. I am looking forward to a Christmas concert at our church tomorrow night–neighbors are coming with us. It feels right–I hope I won’t get stressed by what I don’t accomplish.
